My Top Three Inexpensive Mascaras
Mascara is one of those make-up products that when you use it, it can absolutely transform a look. There are different types that can make them look longer and more defined, more voluminous and thick, or just make your natural lashes look better as an every day look. Now I’m a make-up junkie and like to hoard items to try and see if I like them more than others. However, with just these three mascaras from the same company, you have to look no further for any type of look you want to wear on your lashes. One of the reasons that I don’t recommend that you own more than a few mascaras at a time is because they need to be replaced every three months due to harboring bacteria on the wand.
The first mascara is my favorite one to wear if I was going on a date or to party, or just great for any night out mascara. The full name of it is Maybelline’s The Falsies Volum Express Hydrofuge mascara. But everyone just calls it Falsies. Falsies got its name because if applied correctly, it looks pretty comparable to false lashes. The only downsides that I have found for it is that your eyes feel really tired by the end of the night because of how much product you have on your eyes, and it can be a major pain to remove even with eye make-up remover.
The next mascara that I love is Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto mascara. I find that this is a great mascara if you want your eyes to look really wide and awake. If I’m going somewhere where I know I’ll be getting my picture taken, I wear this one because the other two either make your eyes look a little too intense or not intense enough. Down sides for this mascara would be that it can make your lashes either look spidery or clumpy if you don’t put just the right amount of layers on. It can also start flaking after awhile, so I don’t recommend it for all day use.
This last mascara is probably my favorite one out of all of them, which is Maybelline’s One by One Volum Express mascara, or just the One by One. This one is nice because the wand is bendable and can reach all the way down to the roots of your lashes so that you get a full coat of mascara on them. It’s really nice to wear on just casual days when you’re going to school or work and you don’t want to look too done up. I really can’t think of any down sides for this mascara except if you don’t really like your lashes to look natural.
The great thing about these mascaras is that they only cost about $8 a piece! Most expensive mascaras are around $2o, but there really is no need to spend a lot of money on those since these work just as well. Comment below and let me know what your favorite mascara is!

How to: Find the Perfect Pair of Sunglasses
Sunglasses have long since evolved from a tool used to shade your eyes from the sun. They now constitute as a universal fashion statement to many different types of people. Everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Lady GaGa, to Wiz Khalifa rocks their own style of “stunner” shades. However, just like makeup and clothing, not every style or shape looks best on everyone. It can be a little overwhelming since there are so many different styles to choose from, but read below for the easiest tips for choosing your perfect pair of shades.
If you have an Oval face: (The distance from your forehead to chin is longer than from cheek to cheek)
Lucky you. You have a face shape that is able to rock a few different styles os sunglasses, so you will have more to choose from. Feel free to choose between round or square shaped frames, or even aviators. However, each individual pair of sunglasses can differ. Make sure that the size of the glasses aren’t too big or you can risk looking like you have a super thin or tiny face.
If you have a Round face: (The distance is the same from your forehead to your chin as it is from cheek to cheek)
Definitely steer clear of round or oval shaped sunglasses since you need some contrast to balance out your already round face. Square or rectangular shades work the best. Anything with straight or angular lines will automatically make your face look slimmer. The great thing about having a round face is that you should feel free to go as big as you want, which is so “Hollywood chic.”
If you have a Heart-shaped face: (Shaped like a heart – wider toward the top and thinner toward the bottom)
I feel like heart-shaped faces are the rarest face shape, and don’t have too many styles aimed directly for this shape. However, in my opinion, if you have a heart-shaped face, then you need to look no further than a simple pair of aviators. The shape of aviators kind of mimic the look of your face shape, so they compliment it well. Aviators also come in tons of different colors, so go ahead and stock up.
If you have a Square face: (Strong, prominent jawline)
If you have a square shaped face, then your best option is to go for a round pair of sunglasses in order to counteract and soften the straight, angular lines in your face. (Basically the opposite of a round face) You should also look for a pair that sits higher on you face in order to draw the eye up from your jawline to your eyes.

Beauty Traveling Necessities
I am super excited at the moment, because in two weeks I am taking a four day trip to Disneyland! Since I am currently thinking about all of the different things I need to pack in order to keep up with my beauty regimen, I figured now would be a great time to share my tips with all of you. *Disclaimer: These are things that I personally need to bring when I’m away from my house for at least a couple of nights to a week. I color coordinated everything I am bringing based on importance. (Green – most important, Yellow – pretty important, Red – least important.) Don’t think you have to follow my list exactly. they are just suggestions.
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss: This should be a given. Good hygiene is necessary for everyone.
- Travel size of shampoo, conditioner and other hair products: I put this as mildly important because if you are staying at a hotel, they will most likely provide some for you. Even if they do though, sometimes I prefer to bring my own in case I don’t like the kind provided.
- Basic Make-up kit: Consists of moisturizer, primer, foundation, powder, blush and mascara. It may sound like a lot, but since I am going to be running around Disneyland all day, I want to make sure that my foundation doesn’t wear off and expose any acne, and my eyes look more awake when I put on mascara. Plus all of that takes me less than five minutes to apply, so I’m out the door quicker.
- Advanced Make-up kit: This consists of everything not included in the basic kit such as eyeshadows and basics, lipsticks, lip liners, highlighters, bronzers, etc. The reason that I might be bringing the advanced kit is because we are going out to a nice dinner for one of the nights, and it’s better to look nice rather than casual.
- Deodorant: This goes back to the hygiene aspect.
- Perfume/Body spray: I like to smell good. At Disneyland it’s not a necessity, but it’s always nice.
As you can see, there are many different ways to store your travel products depending on how much you choose to bring and for what length of time you are going for. Let me know what you like to travel with when you go on trips!

There’s more to the cosmetic and beauty industry than just make-up and clothes. One of my favorite stores in the entire world carries some of the most interesting products that I have ever come across. LUSH is a small cosmetic store that originated in Europe and has planted many locations across the United States and other parts of the world. This store specializes in all things bath related as well as skin and hair products. The best part is that all of their products are all natural, environmentally friendly, and they don’t test on animals.
Here is a small list of products that I don’t think I would be able to live comfortably without.
Big Blue Bath Bomb
Bath bombs basically describe themselves. Like the picture above, most of them are in a circular form, usually about the size of a baseball. When you drop one into a bathtub full of water, it starts to fizz and turn the water different colors and spit out sparkles, pop rocks or even rose buds. There are over twenty to choose from, but one that I always end up going back to is Big Blue. When you drop it in the water, it turns a deep ocean blue and fills the tub with seaweed. The only downside is that this can be a little messy when it comes time for clean up.
Karma Bubble Bar
Forget bubble bath that is sold in a bottle. LUSH sells solid bubble bath in which you break off a piece of the bar and start crumbling it under runing bath water. Normally a little goes a long way, and will quickly fill up your tub with some of the most durable and best-smelling bubbles you have ever laid your eyes and nose on. This one in particular smells like oranges and patchouli and fill your bathroom with the scent of spices. It is definitely my favorite bubble bar.
Mint Julips Lip Scrub
Do you have dry, chapped or flaky lips? Then this product may be helpful for you. They have a few different flavors such as chocolate and cherry, but this one doubles as a breath freshener! Just take a small pinch between your thumb and fore finger and rub the little grains all over your lips exfoliating all of the dead skin, leaving your lips soft and smooth. The best part – it’s edible and when your done scrubbing you can just lick it off!
Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask
Fresh face masks are the best. They need to be used within 2-3 weeks since they are made out of fresh ingredients and need to be refrigerated. To apply, just put an even coating all over your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes, or whenever it feels dry. Then just wash it off and apply a moisturizer. This one is made out of lavender, almonds and lettuce and is calming and exfoliating at the same time. Plus lavender smells amazing.
I urge everyone to stop into LUSH and see all of the amazing products they have to offer since I haven’t even touched the surface. If you are already a current LUSHie and shop there often, comment below and let me know what your favorite product is!

Is Moisturizing Makeup Remover Good?
Anyone who knows anything about makeup knows that taking it off is just as important as putting it on. If I go to sleep at night without taking off my makeup, more often than not I wake up the next morning with my face totally broken out from the left over bacteria. Not a good thing. So one night when I spend the night at a friends house, I left my trusty makeup remover wipes at home. Instead of going all the way back to my place to retrieve them, I decided to hit up the local drugstore and try out a new kind of makeup remover.
The makeup remover that I decided to try was Andrea Eye Q’s Moisturizing Makeup Remover Pads. This product claims to condition the eye area while gently removing makeup. This is marketed to target the eye area, but it’s totally safe to remove makeup on the rest of your face. This is a very common makeup remover (claims to be the “World’s Best Selling Eye Makeup Removers”) and can be purchased any where that makeup is sold. My skin is known to have more of a dry texture than an oily one, so I thought that moisutizing pads could do nothing but improve by skin.
Pros: It’s very cost friendly even as a drugstore makeup remover (between 4-7 dollars depending on where you buy it/where you live.) and you get 65 pads in the container. It only takes two for me to remove a day’s worth of makeup, which is saying a lot since they are only about three inches in diameter. A problem that I have with my normal wipes is that when it gets to the end of the packaging, they are all dried out and it becomes difficualt to remove makeup. These are all completely saturated with the liquid product, so there’s no worries there. The most important pro is that even waterproof makeup slides right off with no effort.
Cons: Okay, so there’s really only one major con for me, but it’s a big one. The pads are so “moisturizing” that it feels like rubbing olive oil all over your eyes/face. While there have been rumors that olive oil really helps remove makeup, no one does it because your face looks and feels like a major grease-ball. Even after slashing water on my face and even scrubbing my face with soap and water, it still felt… slippery. The worst part was that my face didn’t feel clean afterward.
Final Rating: 3.5/5
The rating would have been a perfect 5/5 if it hadn’t been for what I call the “olive oil” consistency. Andrea Eye Q’s also has a regular eye makeup remover that isn’t moisturizing, so I’m excited to try that out. Thank you all for reading, and let me know what your favorite makeup remover is!

Flattering Fall Nail Polishes
Autumn doesn’t only mark the start of a new school year, or the changing of the weather, it’s also a chance to try out some different and darker colors in your wardrobe as well as your nails. While the spring season was full of pastel and light shades and the summer was all about bold and bright, fall transitions us into a more dark, matte and muted color palette that will be able to work through the upcoming winter season.
All of the shades listed below are matte shades from both OPI since sparkly and glittery polishes aren’t trending too much for this particular fall season. In my experience, matte polishes are a little more difficult to work with because it takes more coats to get the opacity that I desire. In order to make it a little easier, I recommend using a nice base coat to make the polish stick better (Bonus: there’s less of a chance of it temporarily staining your nails) and a top coat to give it a glossy finish.
Every fall season needs a classic, staple red shade. This year, maroon is back with a vengeance, and I’m loving it. You can wear it with just about anything, since red nail polishes have been an original choice for years. I found that it applied quite nicely with just two coats, which is like a holy grail item when we’re talking matte polishes. This particular shade was part of OPI’s Swiss Collection, and I’m not sure if it was made into a permanent shade or not. If not, this is such a classic color that there are many dupes out there that exist in many different brands.
This particular polish has been in my collection since last season, and I’ve worn it multiple times. It’s an extremely dark emerald shade that looks black at first sight, but shines out in the light and therefore makes it a very unique and popular shade. Greens that are too bright or distinct are great if you want your nails to be the focal point of an outfit, but if you plan on keeping your polish on for more than just a few days, then this shade would be a safe bet. It’s what I like the call the epitome of a color neutral.
This polish makes me so excited, because yellow is one of my all time favorite colors. Most of the time, various shades of yellow pop up in spring time and summer, but seeing it in the fall is somewhat rare. It’s a nice mustard color that can look flattering on almost all skin tones. This polish I haven’t actually tried for myself, but I’m anxious to get my hands on it. (literally.)
There are many other colors that are trending this fall season, like plum and burnt sienna, but these are just three that I personally have been impressed with. Let me know what your favorite season is and what your favorite type of nail polish is!

Which blush shade looks best on YOU?
Have you ever worn a blush and thought that it didn’t look natural on you? That’s probably because it didn’t. Not trying to sound blunt or harsh, but there is an extremely broad range of blush colors out there and it’s not hard to pick up the wrong shade once in awhile. There are two methods that I have discovered in telling which shade is right for you.
The first way is to bend over and touch your toes for about 20 seconds or until you feel the blood rushing to your head. When you stand up whatever color your cheeks naturally flush to is the shade of blush that looks most natural on your particular skin tone. If touching your toes didn’t make your face flush, then go to the gym or go running for an hour or so with no foundation on, and when you come back your face should have a natural glow to it. This method in particular doesn’t work for me, because when I come back from working out my face looks anything from hot pink to lobster red, and both of them don’t compliment my skin tone in the slightest. If you’re like me, then you can just refer to the chart below.
Pale to Fair Skin: No matter what shade of blush you put on your face, it’s going to stand out against your light skin. Therefore, a pale pink would be the best option and save you from looking like a clown. There are many different blushes that fall under this category, but being a fair skinned girl myself, I prefer MAC’s Well Dressed for a natural shade.
Medium to Olive skin: This is a nice skin tone to have, because a variety of different colors can look nice. The only shade I would steer clear form are bright pinks, because it would definitely clash with the yellow undertones of your skin. The colors that look best are peachy and coral shades. If you want, you could go for an orange blush, but apply it with a light hand so you don’t look like you just walked off the set of Jersey Shore. My favorite shade is Benefit’s Coralista blush.
Deep Tan to Dark skin: You have the opposite problem that pale skinned people do, because a lot of blush shades either don’t show up well on your skin, or will clash and make it look awkward. In this case I think that deep purples or mauves look gorgeous on the skin. One that I have always lusted after is NARS’ Sin.
Once again, these shades are just what looks NATURAL with certain skin tones. If you’re wearing heavy eye makeup that day, I would suggest sticking to these shades so that your face doesn’t look too busy. However if you’re just wearing a neutral look on your eyes and lips, then feel free to experiment within reason. I’m one of the palest people I know and I still like to put some deeper shades of blush on my cheeks from time to time. Comment below with your favorite blush shade!

How to: Achieve the Perfect Smokey Eye
Whenever you’re planning to go out and socialize after dark, your makeup needs to evolve for the occasion. A classic look to wear is the ever popular black smokey eye. It’s super edgy and rocker chic, plus it goes perfectly with almost any nighttime outfit. The great thing about a smokey eye is that you can use different color eyeshadows if black is too harsh for you, but you can still follow these same steps.
*This tutorial consists of MAC products unless otherwise stated, but you can substitute for whichever brand you like.
1. Start out by using Painterly (skin color with pink undertones) or Soft Ochre (skin color with yellow undertones) paint pot all over the lids as a neutral base for your eyes. I usually just use my ring finger for this, as it applies the least amount of pressure to your eyes. (After I wash my hands.)
2. Using a flat shader brush, or a MAC 139, apply Idol Eyes eyeshadow to cover the lid for a light, silvery shimmery finish. Be careful with frost shadow since it isn’t very pigmented and you may run into a bit of fall-out.
3. With a fluffy dome shaped brush,or a MAC 217, place the shadow Knight Divine (a darker silver) in your crease and blend, blend, blend!
4. In the outer corner of your eye, use the same brush you used for your crease and apply the shadow Carbon for more of a classic matte black look, or Black Tied for more of a flashy, sparkly black look. With either choice, you’re going to have to blend again, but not to the point where it looks muddy.
5. For highlighting your inner corner and under the brow bone, use the shade Vanilla to soften any harsh edges, as well as brighten and open up the eyes. The best highlighting brush would be a much larger shader brush or a MAC 227.
6. For the final touches, apply a black liner to the rim of your lids as well as a thick coating of mascara. I suggest using MAC blacktrack fluidline and Maybelline Falsies mascara.
You can also check out a step-by-step video that I made awhile back using a lot of green shadows. A lot of the techniques and steps are the same as the ones listed above, so you can view that here.
